Physical Education – Sporting Aims and Provision

Physical education is taught in accordance with the National Curriculum. A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

PE at Lambton

At Lambton we endeavor to promote the importance of Physical Education and a healthy lifestyle to all our children across the school. All children have at least two hours of PE per week, one hour outdoor, and one hour indoor. Children have the opportunity to develop agility, co-ordination and the ability to express movement through dance, gymnastics, athletics, games, movement and swimming.

We also encourage participation in a wide range of our extra-curricular activities and also through the local competitions we partake in throughout the year. We offer a range of engaging, creative and exciting during break time and lunch time too. The children enjoy working practically with the coaches from Championship Sports during active breakfast and lunch times. Children have developed their own Lambton Gym, which has been run by the pupils for several years now.

Our curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities, are physically active for sustained periods of time, engage in competitive sports and activities, and lead healthy, active lives.

We create opportunities to compete in sport and other activities to help children build character and to embed values, such as fairness and respect. Pupils’ social skills are developed through team or group work, enabling children to work together and as individuals.

The school runs a number of sporting teams and extra-curricular activities. Pupils also take part in festivals and other events involving children from other schools.

Sports days at the end of the summer term are important events in our school year.
