Our Work

Nursery
In Nursery we have been learning about People who help us. We had a visit from the school nurse and she talked to us about her job. We looked at pictures of nurses from a long time ago and thought about times when we had seen a nurse.
Reception
In P.E we have been learning how to play hockey. We have been learning how to hold a hockey stick correctly and how to dribble a ball around cones.
Year 1
Year 1 have enjoyed visiting Chopwell Woods, to learn about sustainability.
We used natural materials to create our own sculptures and musical instruments. We scavenged for natural art materials in order to create inspirational woodland pictures. We also enjoyed pretending to be flying birds with the clever use of mirrors.
Year 2
Year 2 have been learning about forces. We rolled a toy car down a ramp and took careful measurements. As the ramp was raised the car went faster and further. Watch out though... too high and the car crashed!
Year 3
In Year 3 we have been comparing localities by studying the differences between Washington and Durham. We made persuasive leaflets to encourage people to visit Washington, learned how to read Ordnance Survey maps and we also visited Durham to compare the city to Washington for ourselves.
Year 4
Year 4 have been learning about fair trade as part of our sustainability topic. We visited Tropical Wholefoods in Southwick to see what they make and which fair trade farmers they work with. The fair trade campaign this year was ‘to go a step further with fair trade’. We bought some fair trade chocolate and used it to make some Easter nests.
Year 5
Year 5 visited Broom House Farm. We learned about the different animals on the farm. The farmers told us about the ways in which they try to make the farm as sustainable as possible, and how they try to reduce the number of food miles their produce travels.
Year 6
Year 6 visited Washington Town Centre Library. To encourage a love of books, Year 6 are going to visit the library regularly. They completed a workshop on genres.
