At Lambton, we have lots of opportunity to experience music. Class teachers teach a music lesson at least every other week, supported by the online resource Charanga. In addition to this, all children participate in a weekly singing assembly, where they are taught and practise a wide variety of songs, from pop to traditional hymns and carols and gospel styles, as well as songs from around the world.
We have a specialist music teacher working with children from years 3, 4, 5, and 6 learning guitar. Additionally, children have the opportunity to learn how to play an acoustic drum kit. The children learn to read music and work through a series of lessons in order to be awarded certificates and when they are ready apply for a music medals certification. These children perform solo pieces and as part of an ensemble a couple of times a year.
Each term, there is a musical production performed by two year groups, initially to the rest of the school and then two performances for the parents and carers of the children performing. This develops the children’s performance skills and their confidence.
